My breeding season 2023

15th February 2023
In: News
I haven't been very good at keeping up my posts have I?

So this year I intend to keep up to date with my breeding butterflies and moths blog starting today.

Glanville Fritillary larvae have emerged from their winter hideaway and are sat on the side of the plan pots containing plantain. Still a little early in this neck of the woods for feeding and it is still a little cold I feel.

Marsh Friillary larvae are starting to show signs of emerging from hibernation but are very small at the moment and as today is a cold day they are not very visible. I know they are there though!

I have laid out my cocoons for spring today - Kentish Glory, Chinese Oak silkmoth and Emperor. I should have had some deaths head as well but don't think they survived the winter.

Will keep you updated as the season progresses.
