The Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator) is Britain’s largest dragonfly. The green thorax and bright blue curved abdomen make the male easy to identify. The males are highly territorial patrolling their territories from several metres above the water and rarely settle, even eating their prey in flight. They emerge in late spring and are a common sight this month.
